Beaujolais is best known for its juicy red wines, but the appellation laws do allow for white wine to be grown and it takes the form of Chardonnay. The Soils in Burgundy, Chardonnays more famous home further north, are mainly limestone, whereas in Beaujolais the soils are more granite giving the wine extra freshness and vibrancy.
Chateau Cambon was started in 1995 by the legendary natural winemaker Marcel Lapierre. Marcel sadly passed away in 2010, but the estate continues under the stewardship of his wife, Marie, and Jean Claude Chadunet
Winemaking here is mainly in steel tanks, with 20% of the wine being matured in used barrels just adding a little texture to the wine, without adding overt creamy or vanilla notes.
