Jean Guiton, Bligny Les Beaune
Guillaume Guiton, after studies in Beaune and an apprenticeship in several wineries in Burgundy and as far away as as Rosemount in Australia, is now in charge of the domaine founded 35 years ago by his father Jean. Since he took over in 2005 (and we discovered him with the lovely 2009 vintage) he has hugely increased quality here, earning rave notices from Jancis Robinson and La Revue du Vin de France among others. The family’s 11 hectares of vines, part owned and part leased, cover a wide number of appellations; and the wines are each true to their origin. These aren’t famed vineyards, but this has become our favourite source for refined, expressive, yet affordable red Burgundy. All the 2012s were lovely here – it was hard to work out which cuvées to select. With price increases of around 8% they remain extremely good value and we urge you to buy these delicious red Burgundies.
