Description

The Nv 2021 Extra Brut Rose Insouciance is a blend of 50% Pinot Noir, 30% Chardonnay and 20% Pinot Meunier. It is a pale pink sparkler with an initial whiff of wild raspberry. The Very foamy, frothy mousse just points to youthfulness and short tirage. This also means that fruit rather than autolysis plays the central role. It does so most charmingly with redcurrant and cranberry framed with white pepper. The body is light, almost delicate and results from beautifully pure fruit with fine freshness. With more time on lees, this would have been stunning because there is length and grace. Dosage 4gr/ L Disgorged August 2023 Anne Krebiehl MW Vinous 90Pts

This Rosé is a blend that has originated from the Chardonnay-influenced, The Invitation.

Francois gained valuable experience at the Hospices de Beaune, Domaine de Montille, M Chapoutier and in the Antipodes. It was wine writer James Halliday at Coldstream Hills who introduced François to New Zealand wines, which led to his crossing the Tasman and working at both Pegasus Bay in Canterbury and Gypsy Dancer in Central Otago, whose winemaker he married and has brought back to the family base in the village of Ludes on the Montagne de Reims.

This prolonged exposure to the unpolluted air of the Land of the Long White Cloud presumably served only to strengthen the Huré determination to clean up their act in the vineyard (Champagne’s vineyards are notorious). They claim to have been fully sustainable since 2000 but three years ago stopped using herbicides and started to cultivate their soil and have so far converted 60% of their vineyards thus. They have also been experimenting with biodynamic viticulture and report that the soil does now seem to have more oxygen and life in it

Close-knit family, two brothers sharing a common vision and then passing on their

values to the next generation, all this and more makes up the story of Champagne Huré-Fréres: started just over 50 years ago and still very much a family business.Today Raoul Huré and his two sons, Francois and Pierre invite you to discover their maison at Ludes in the Montagne de Reims.

Francois Hure said : What we believe in : Champagne is a patchwork quilt of different terroirs with each Village, each slope and eachplot of land offering its own unique aromatic profile.

Everything we do is designed not only to respect these differences but to express them as much as possible.

When it comes to our Winemaking we select only the finest grapes so as to make champagnes that are complex and elegant: a living reflection, in fact, of the soil from which they are born.

Different yet unique, our champagnes are waiting to be discovered by lovers of fine Wine everywhere

Aware of the environmental footprint we leave, when producing a premium Champagne, we have chosen to make use of environmentally sustainable farming practices. We feel that there are three main areas of importance, namely: the terroir, the surrounding vegetation / plant life and the varying climatic conditions.

These methods help to maintain the quality of the soil and encourage the growth of Vines that produce healthy, ripe and balanced grapes, which are crucial to producing our high-quality champagne.

  • Use of organic composts
  • Minimal tillage of the soil
  • Maintenance of natural ground cover
  • Careful pruning, and pruning method adapted to each Vine
  • Constant and meticulous observation on our vines
  • Meticulous thinning of the plants and canopy management

We liken our winemaking to that of a river. It starts upstream in the vineyards and flows downstream into the cellar. Our winemaking is a continuous flow of processes and procedures. Another important factor that we take into consideration of is the preservation of the various ‘grape personalities’.

Over time, we find them to be rich, balanced and fruity. By means of environmentally sustainable farming practices, the grapes are given the opportunity to express their various personalities and reach their full dynamism within a relatively short period of time.
